As a rule, the silver medal and an award of € 3.000,– (at present) should be awarded to scientists up to the age of about forty who have published outstanding scientific work during the years after their graduation.

The bronze medal and an award of € 1.500,– (at present) will be given to young scholars up to the age of about thirty whose thesis are of outstanding quality.

II

Normally, the prize for outstanding scientific work will be awarded annually by the President or the Vice President of the Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzen- und Naturstoff-Forschung in a special ceremony held as part of the congress of that society.

As a rule, the silver and bronze medals will be awarded on alternate years.

III

The panel of judges for the prizes shall consist of the President, former presidents and the editor of Planta Medica. When appropriate, they will employ three internationally acknowledged advisers as consultants.

The advisers utilized by the committee will be required to submit short, evaluative, written statements. The positive outcome of the consultations will be expressed in a tribute that will be read during the ceremony and will be published in an appropriate way.

If a member of the committee has nominated a candidate, he/she is excluded from participating in the decision.

IV

After the awards ceremony, the recipient of the award is expected to give a lecture on his/her scientific work. This lecture will be held during the congress.

The President of the congress shall schedule the lecture, which should not last no longer than thirty minutes.

V

Members of the Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzen- und Naturstoff-Forschung may submit nominations for candidates, together with supporting data, to the President. Such nominations will be received until March 15 of the year in which the award is to be made. All writings taken into consideration, including previously published papers, should represent achievements of the six years prior to their consideration by the judges.

A nomination for the prize (self nominations will not be considered) should include a curriculum vitae incorporating the most important data on the candidate’s scientific career, an index on his/her publications, and reprints of several of his/her more recent publications.

All documents shall be submitted as pdf-files via email to our Scientific Officer, Cornelia Kern.
