Research projects aim to decode how the metabolome and proteome, two of the most important classes of molecules in biology, interact at the molecular level.

This will generate deeper insight into the function of metabolites (natural products) which have a central role in communication, intraspecies interactions and interactions with therapeutic targets.

Expected outcomes from the projects include new annotations of the metabolome-proteome interaction landscape, and a new mass spectrometry-based platform for unbiased and rapid discovery of natural product-based probes.

These project aims to solve a key problem in natural product discovery: the inability to elucidate their biological targets.

Therapeutic areas of interest include tuberculosis, malaria, Parkinson’s disease and SARS-CoV-2.

Pharmacology; Phytochemistry; Ethnomedicine of Western Africa

GA African Research Network (chair)

„Eine Schule für Kingon e.V.” (non-profit society for the promotion of primary education in West Africa)

I believe that the scientific exploration and preservation of our natural medicinal heritage is of utmost importance and needs to be supported especially in less developed countries.
I therefore strive to foster the development of supportive network structures in these regions to support especially young scientists in their scientific development.
